Lauren Jackson in Australia to treat hurt Achilles
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - Lauren Jackson, the reigning MVP of the WNBA, has returned home to Australia for treatment on her injured Achilles tendon.
Basketball Australia chief executive Larry Sengstock said in a statement Tuesday that Jackson had an assessment at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra late Monday and was awaiting feedback on treatment.
“It is certainly a serious injury, and we will be working to ensure that she gets it right so that she can continue her illustrious career,” Sengstock said.
Sengstock said returning to Australia from her Russian club, Spartak Moscow, was Jackson's best chance for a speedy recovery.
“Once we have more information, she will be able to make a decision about her short-term future,” he said.
Jackson has been treated at the AIS for previous injuries including back problem in 2009.
