Auriemma hopes for quick WNBA finals
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Geno Auriemma has a simple rooting interest in the WNBA finals - a sweep.
With the WNBA finals beginning Sunday and potential U.S. national team players Sue Bird, Swin Cash and Angel McCoughtry still competing, Auriemma hopes for a quick series. If the finals were to go the distance, Game 5 would be in Seattle on Sept. 21, two days before the start of the World Championships in the Czech Republic.
That would make for a logistical challenge trying to get the players and U.S. assistant coach Marynell Meadors over to Europe and ready to play at the start of the tournament.
Even if there is a sweep of the five-game series, the third game would be on Thursday, Sept. 16.
