Slaton eager to win back starting job

HOUSTON (AP) -Steve Slaton has some young and eager competition for the Houston Texans' starting running back job. In Slaton's mind it's his job to lose, despite a subpar second season that ended with a neck injury.

He's healthy now, determined to cut down his fumbles and ready to kick-start the Texans' running attack, which was one of the NFL's worst in 2009. Houston was 30th in the league in rushing last season (92.2 yards per game).

Arian Foster, who rushed for 218 yards in the final two games as a rookie in 2009, has worked with the first-team offense during the first two days of training camp. The Texans picked Ben Tate in the second round of the draft, and the former Auburn star is also in the mix for the starting role. Veteran Chris Henry and second-year pro Jeremiah Johnson are also getting reps at running back.
