Tigers Galarraga leaves after being hit on ankle

BOSTON (AP) -Armando Galarraga has left the Detroit Tigers game against the Boston Red Sox after being struck on the right ankle by a line drive.

The right-hander dropped to the mound in the fifth inning Friday night after the drive by Kevin Youkilis, who got a single as the ball ricocheted toward the third-base line.

Manager Jim Leyland and a trainer went to the mound and Galarraga stood up after about five minutes. Then Galarraga walked off the mound to the Detroit dugout.

Detroit led 4-1, but Galarraga was not eligible for the win since he had pitched only 4 2-3 innings. He was replaced by Enrique Gonzalez.
