RH Galarraga chosen to fill out Arizona rotation
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Armando Galarraga will fill the final spot in the Arizona Diamondbacks rotation.
The Venezuelan right-hander, acquired in an offseason trade with Detroit, beat out Aaron Heilman, a longtime reliever who had been guaranteed a shot at winning a starting job when he re-signed with Arizona.
Galarraga is best remembered for his gracious reaction when an umpire's blown call cost him a perfect game for the Tigers against Cleveland last June 2.
Manager Kirk Gibson says the rotation order will be Ian Kennedy, Daniel Hudson, Joe Saunders, Barry Enright and Galarraga. All but Saunders are right-handers.
Gibson also announced that third baseman Geoff Blum will start the season on the disabled list with an injured right knee.
