Phillies 3B Polanco playing with broken elbow

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) -Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco says he is playing with a small break in his left elbow, but is postponing surgery until after the season because Philadelphia is in a pennant race.

Polanco is batting .308 with six homers and 47 RBIs for the NL East-leading Phillies, who had a half-game lead over Atlanta entering play Thursday.

Polanco tells The Associated Press in a telephone interview that he also has been hampered by forearm tendinitis that stems from compensating for his injured elbow.

The 34-year-old Polanco spent time on the disabled list earlier this season with elbow inflammation.
