Padres' Latos to miss start with sore shoulder

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - San Diego Padres pitcher Mat Latos won't make his next start on Saturday because of a sore right shoulder.

Manager Bud Black says Latos complained of a sore shoulder and skipped Wednesday's bullpen session, two days after making his last start. Latos threw 90 pitches in a four-plus inning effort against the Chicago White Sox on Monday, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and three walks.

Black says the injury “sort of popped up” and will see how it plays out.

He hasn't officially named an Opening Day starter, but Latos was on line to pitch when the Padres open the season at the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.

Last season, Latos finished 14-10 with a 2.92 ERA in a career-high 31 starts.
