Bonds' ex-mistress testifies at perjury trial
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Barry Bonds' former mistress has taken the witness stand at the slugger's perjury trial.
Federal prosecutor Jeff Nedrow called Kimberly Bell to testify on Monday morning after San Francisco Giants clubhouse manager Mike Murphy said on the stand that Bonds needed a larger hat for the 2002 season. Prosecutors say that testimony is important because an enlarged head is a side effect of human growth hormone use.
Bell is expected to testify that Bonds told her that he used steroids. She is also planning to testify about physical and mental changes she witnessed Bonds experience during their nine-year relationship.
She began her testimony recounting how she met Bonds while sitting in the back seat of a mutual friend's car on July 3, 1994. She said Bonds stuck his head in the window and flirted with her, and that the two met up later at a barbecue, which launched their romantic relationship.
