Kanaan doesn't have sponsorship to race in 2011
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Tony Kanaan does not have enough sponsorship to join de Ferran Dragon Racing this season, and the lack of funding likely means the team won't run the upcoming IndyCar season.
The 2004 IndyCar champion lost his ride with Andretti Autosport at the end of last season because of a lack of sponsorship, and he didn't secure the corporate backing to make it to the March 27 season opener in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Kanaan posted on his Twitter page that he is “not giving up.”
The Indianapolis Star first reported Wednesday that Kanaan did not have enough sponsorship to race for de Ferran.
Team co-owner Gil de Ferran says the team will likely not be able to participate in the upcoming season.
