IndyCar star Fisher to focus on team owner role
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -IndyCar driver Sarah Fisher is handing the keys to her No. 67 car to Ed Carpenter for the 2011 season so she can focus on her role as team owner.
Fisher said Carpenter will handle the driving duties next year after Dollar General agreed to serve as primary sponsor in nine races in 2011.
Fisher called it the perfect time to make way for Carpenter, allowing her to search for growth opportunities for Sarah Fisher Racing, which she founded in 2008.
The 30-year-old Fisher drove in 83 IndyCar events during her 11-year career, finishing in the top-five three times and winning the pole at Kentucky in 2002.
Carpenter, a longtime driver for Vision Racing, drove in four events last year for Panther Racing, finishing second at Kentucky in September.
