Franchitti not letting himself fixate on IRL title
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) - Dario Franchitti apparently likes taking a difficult path to the IndyCar championship.
Here he goes again.
With two races left in 2007, he trailed Scott Dixon by four points. After a one-year stint with stock cars, he returned to the IRL ranks in 2009 and trailed Ryan Briscoe by 25 points entering the season's last two events.
Both times, he won the title.
This year might set up the same way. With only two races remaining, Franchitti trails Will Power by 17 points. Franchitti and Power were at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Monday, testing in advance of the Oct. 2 finale that almost certainly will decide the IRL title.
Franchitti says, “We know it's doable.”
