Worth Repeating wins Tokyo City Cup at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Trainer Richard Mandella's Worth Repeating took an early lead Saturday and held off a come-from-behind charge from Honour the Deputy to win the $100,000 Tokyo City Cup on Saturday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Martin Pedroza, Worth Repeating took the lead in the field of five older horses heading into the second turn, stretched the margin to two lengths by the top of the stretch and won by a half-length, covering 1 1/2 miles on dirt in 2:29.23.

Worth Repeating, a 5-year-old son of Giant's Causeway, paid $18.20, $5.60 and $3.20. Honour the Deputy paid $3.80 and $2.60. Spurrier was third and paid $2.60 to show.

The favorite, Soul Candy, was briefly second at the top of the stretch but faded to fourth.
