WinStar Farm breaks through with Super Saver

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -Trainer Todd Pletcher isn't the only one who ended a Kentucky Derby drought on Saturday.

Super Saver's victory through the slop at Churchill Downs gave his owners at WinStar Farm their first win in the Run for the Roses.

The highly successful operation entered the race winless in nine starts and lost two Derby hopefuls during the week when they removed Rule from Derby consideration and Endorsement was injured.

Yet co-founder Kenny Troutt said he had a pretty good feeling when his horse entered the starting gate. It helped that his 9-year-old daughter Savannah told him she felt Super Saver was going to win.

The win gives farm president Doug Cauthen a Derby victory to put alongside the one his brother, jockey Steve Cauthen, captured aboard Affirmed in 1978.
