Tar Heel Mom wins Big A's Distaff
NEW YORK (AP) -Tar Heel Mom led all the way in the $147,000 Distaff Handicap for fillies and mares, beating Hour Glass by 2 1/2 lengths on Saturday at Aqueduct.
It was her first win in four starts this season, all graded stakes. She finished in the money in the three prior races, a level of consistency that made her the 9-5 favorite.
Ramon Dominguez hustled Tar Heel Mon to the front between rivals at the start and 5-year-old maintained a clear lead throughout. She improved to 7 for 19 for trainer Stanley Hough. The time was 1:24.51 for the seven furlongs on the muddy track.
Tar Heel Mom paid $5.60, $2.90 and $2.10. Hour Glass returned $3.30 and $2.30. Matchless Orinda paid $2.30 to show.
