National Pride takes $55,000 Spa feature
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - National Pride moved to the lead halfway down the backstretch and was never threatened in a 6 1/2-length victory Monday in the $55,000 featured race at Saratoga Race Course.
The race was the meeting's first non-stakes feature and was for horses age 3 and older entered to be claimed for $50,000 or who had not won two races other than maiden, claiming, starter or restricted.
Ridden by Alan Garcia, the 5-year-old gelding had not raced since March and was one of two starters eligible to be claimed. National Pride ran 1 1-8 miles in 1:50.39, earned $33,000 for South Elkhorn Stable, the owner, and returned $7.70, $3.90 and $2.50. Glenwood Canyon, the runner-up, paid $4 and $2.50 and Ruffino, third of six, paid $3.30 to show.
