Marlang wins closing-day Sunset at Hollywood Park

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -Marlang led from gate to wire in the $100,000 Sunset Handicap, the closing-day feature at Hollywood Park.

Marlang and jockey Joel Rosario, who was the leading rider for the third consecutive Hollywood meeting, went straight to the front of the field of six older horses in Sunday's Grade 3 Sunset, led by as many as 3 1/2 lengths and beat Champ Pegasus by one length, covering 1 1/2 miles on turf in 2:25.45.

Marlang, the favorite, paid $6.80, $3.60 and $3.20. Champ Pegasus paid $3.60 and $3.20. Unusual Suspect was third and paid $3.20 to show.

A 5-year-old trained by Neil Drysdale for owner and breeder Gustav Schickedanz, Marlang ended a six-race losing streak and won for the first time in nearly two years.
