Le Mi Geaux wins on opening day at Saratoga
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Le Mi Geaux rallied in the mud from well behind a blistering pace and overtook favored Stopspending Maria to win the $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes for 2-year-old fillies Friday by 1 1/2 lengths on opening day at Saratoga Race Course.
Apprentice jockey Freddie Lenclud rode the Richard Dutrow-trained Le Mi Geaux, who benefitted from a four-horse battle for the early lead. Stopspending Maria emerged in front before fading, while Show Me the Bling finished third in a field of six.
The victory was the second in three starts for Le Mi Geaux, who ran six furlongs over a sloppy track in 1:13.67 and earned $60,000 for owner Landon B. Robbins III.
The winner paid $20.20, $7.70 and $3.60, Stopspending Maria paid $4.50 and $2.90, and Show Me the Bling returned $2.90 to show.
