Japan to get Breeders' Cup Challenge race
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The Breeders' Cup Challenge series is expanding to Japan.
The winner of the Takarazuka Kinen stakes race will earn an automatic starting position in the $3 million Turf race during the Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs in November.
The Group 1 race for 3-year-olds and up will be run at 1 3-8 miles on the turf at Hanshin Racecourse on June 26.
The Breeders' Cup will pay the $90,000 entry fee and a $20,000 travel allowance to the winner of the Japanese race.
The winner of the BC Turf will earn an automatic berth in the Japan Cup on Nov. 27 at Tokyo Racecourse, and will be eligible for up to a $1 million bonus based upon a top-three finish.
