Gio Ponti among 14 horses entered for World Cup
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - American-based Gio Ponti, Fly Down and Richard's Kid are among 14 horses entered for Saturday's $10 million Dubai World Cup.
The world's richest race drew entries from around the world, including three based in Japan - Buena Vista, Transcend and Victorie Pisa.
Gio Ponti finished fourth in last year's World Cup at Meydan Racecourse, and is likely to be among the favorites. The 6-year-old is a three-time Eclipse Award winner and has earned more than $5 million for owner Castleton Lyons Farm.
Also entered Wednesday were Monterosso, Prince Bishop, Cape Blanco, Musir, Gitano Hernando, Poet's Voice, Twice Over and Golden Sword.
A total of 111 horses have been entered for the eight-race World Cup card that is worth $26.25 million.
