Flashpoint pulls away to win Hutcheson Stakes
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Flashpoint pulled away from Travelin Man down the stretch Saturday to win the $150,000 Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Trained by Richard Dutrow Jr. and ridden by Cornelio Velasquez, the gray son of Pomeroy covered the seven furlongs in 1:22.03 to win by 7 1/4 lengths.
Travelin Man finished seconds while Lilttle Drama was another three lengths back in third.
Dutrow called the performance “sensational,” and he's hoping to point the colt toward the Florida Derby and then, perhaps, the Kentucky Derby down the line.
