Ashes of Chick Lang scattered at Pimlico
BALTIMORE (AP) -The ashes of Pimlico general manager Chick Lang have been scattered in the Preakness winner's circle in keeping with his wishes.
Lang was honored before the first race of the spring meet Saturday. His ashes were carried on horseback around the mile oval and spread near the cupola. He died March 18 at 83.
Lang's daughter, Debi Tessier, says her father would have loved the ceremony. She says opening day was his second favorite day of the year behind Preakness day.
Lang was known as Mr. Preakness. He worked at Pimlico from 1960 to 1987, helping elevate the status of the second leg of racing's Triple Crown.
The Hirsch Jacobs Stakes has been renamed in Lang's honor and will be run May 15 on the Preakness undercard.
