69-year-old jockey back in saddle
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A 69-year-old jockey severely injured when a horse fell on him before a race last May is returning to the track.
Roy Brooks has two mounts scheduled Friday night when Remington Park opens its annual quarter-horse meet and expects he'll soon pick up more riding opportunities.
Brooks has been among the top riders at the Oklahoma City track since it opened in 1988 and is thought to be the nation's second-oldest quarter horse jockey. Last May 15, he suffered a broken pelvis and torn urethra when the 2-year-old horse he was riding reared up and fell on him as he prepared to lead it into the starting gate.
Brooks rode three races at Will Rogers Downs in November, winning one, before making his return to Remington Park.
