Dan Wheldon lands ride for Indianapolis 500
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Dan Wheldon has a car lined up for this year's Indianapolis 500 - even though he's still looking for a full-time ride.
The former Indy winner and two-time runner-up will drive for Bryan Herta Autosports this May. The team made the announcement Friday.
Wheldon has been one of the most successful drivers on the historic 2.5-mile oval in recent years. He won the 2005 race when he and Herta were teammates at Andretti Green Racing. Wheldon also has finished second each of the past two years at Indy when he was employed by Panther Racing.
In the past seven years, Wheldon has four top-five finishes at Indy and won the 2005 series championship.
The race is scheduled for May 27.
