Notre Dame death probe report to be released
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana has completed a four-month investigation into the death of a Notre Dame student who was killed when a hydraulic lift he was standing on fell as he filmed football practice.
Indiana Department of Labor Commissioner Lori Torres is scheduled to announce the investigation results Tuesday. Twenty-year-old Declan Sullivan of Long Grove, Ill., died Oct. 27 when the lift toppled in gusts of up to 51 mph.
State officials have said they are considering whether federal and state workplace safety rules and industry standards might have been violated, including a federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration rule barring workers from using scaffolds during high winds.
The school announced last week that it will no longer use the lifts to film training and will instead use remote-controlled cameras on towers.
